When you reach a certain age, it can feel as though all of your friends are getting married at once – and buying different outfits for every event can be expensive.
But one woman on Reddit has decided not to spend money on dresses she doesn’t need and has worn the same outfit to every one of her friends’ weddings for the past few years.
And while the woman, who is from the US but lives in Canada, might be saving money, her friends aren’t impressed with her antics – and one pal who is set to tie the knot this year has become so annoyed with her that she’s banned her from wearing the same dress again.
In her post, the woman said: “I live in Canada now with my husband, but I went to school in the US. All my clothes are for cold weather and I only have a small number of dresses, skirts, and warm weather attire.

“Most of my friends are in California and when I’m there I rotate three dresses: a black one, a blue one, one for the holidays, and a couple of shorts.
“I’ve worn the same blue dress for all my friends’ weddings and at the latest one I got an invite to my friend’s wedding with the message, ‘don’t you dare wear that same blue dress’.
“I’ve been teased by my friends about wearing the same thing.”
The woman said she doesn’t have a big wardrobe and mostly has clothes for “function and work”, so doesn’t see the point in spending more money on other clothes she will hardly wear.
She added: “I only have a small wardrobe and most of my clothes are for function and work (I’m a civil engineer) rather than parties since I only go out a few times a year and it’s too cold for dresses normally.
“Am I the a**hole for wearing the same dress to all my friends’ weddings, and do I have to buy a new dress for my friend’s wedding when she specifically said I can’t wear the same one? It’s not in bad shape it’s only been worn a dozen times.”
Commenters on the Reddit post were baffled by the woman’s friends, as many of them couldn’t understand why wearing the same dress would be such a big deal.
One person said: “Wear what you want. Maybe try to change it up with a colourful scarf or something, if you want, but you’re not required to, and you certainly don’t have to get a new dress.”
While another wrote: “No one is entitled to variety in other people’s outfits. Fast fashion is a plague on the environment. Wearing the same nice dress multiple times is thrifty, good for the environment, and entirely a personal choice.”
